Dixon has written seven books, mostly focused on technology, education, workplace and employment topics. Be Your Own Headhunter Online (Random House/Times Books) was the first book to be published about job searching on the Web. It was a finalist in the Computer Press Awards. Virtual College (Peterson's) is still used in distance education classrooms, and Take Charge Computing (Wiley) went on to the finals in the Ben Franklin Awards.

Dixon is currently working on two new titles, one regarding privacy and a book on job searching with some new twists. She is also completing a chapter for an encyclopedia on distance education.
